Janie Avila, MSN APRN FNP-C CPON®Nurse Practitioner, Division of Pediatrics

Janie Avila is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner at MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital in Houston, Texas. She started in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology as a Registered Nurse in 2001 in the inpatient setting and then transferred to outpatient clinic. In 2008, she obtained CPON certification as well as certification as an APHON Chemo/Bio Instructor. She has also worked in Pediatric Home Health and Hospice.

Janie joined APHON’s Global Outreach Committee in 2016, when APHON’s Pediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Course was translated for use by pediatric oncology nurses in Latin America. She was part of the Task Force who worked on the translated curriculum and taught the inaugural Spanish Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Course in Santiago, Chile. Since then, she has taught multiple Chemo/Bio Provider Courses throughout Latin America. She has also participated in teaching the Spanish Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Instructor Course and plans to continue helping develop International Courses . She is currently Chair of APHON's Global Outreach Committee and looks forward to serving the team as well as our APHON colleagues.
