Kare Barrett received her Bachelors of Nursing at Wright State University in December of 1990. Master of Science in Administration of Nursing and Health Care System at Wright State University in 2017. Since she has worked at Dayton Children's Hospital for 33 years, her last 25 years with Hematology/Oncology focus both inpatient and outpatient. In 2008 she became the Sickle Cell Nurse Coordinator through 2015
Over the years, Kate has given lectures related to Diagnosis and Care of the Sickle Cell Patients to Wright State University Medical Students 2009 through 2014 and presented at the Ohio School Nurse Association conference in 2012 related to Children with Sickle Cell Disease in the School Setting. In 2015 became the Nurse Manager for the Hematology/Oncology Department overseeing both inpatient and outpatient areas. As the Nurse Manager, she presented Hematologic Conditions and Pediatric Cancers to pediatric nurses for CPN certification in 2018, 2019, 2020 and collaborated with Nationwide Children's Hospital leadership to bring a Bone Marrow Transplant service to Dayton Children's Hospital. The partnership provided a program-Two Campuses One Program providing exceptional care through strong communication and coordination, allowing families more time closer to home. In 2020 Kate became the Service Line Director for the Hematology/Oncology Department, which enables further development of the Bone Marrow Transplant program and increased hematology/oncology outreach to Dayton community partners.
