"Karla Wilson has been the nurse practitioner in the Childhood and AYA Cancer Survivorship program at City of Hope in Duarte CA since 2006. Karla attained her basic nursing degree from Deaconess School of Nursing in St. Louis MO. She obtained her master’s in child health nursing at the University of Missouri and her post-master’s family nurse practitioner at the University of Southern California. Karla has been a pediatric nurse for more than 45 years and an advanced practice nurse for more than 35 years.
Karla has authored chapters in pediatric textbooks, both authored and edited several pediatric oncology nursing textbooks and co-developed the Foundations of Pediatric Oncology CD-Ram educational modules that were then donated to APHON. She has previously served as president of the APHON and as vice-president for the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC). In addition, Karla was one of the founding members and developers of pediatric oncology nursing certification under the Certification Corporation of Pediatric Oncology Nurses (CCPON) prior to it being incorporated under ONCC. Karla has also chaired the ONCC pediatric test development committee and ILNA committees.
On a personal level, Karla is an avid gardener and reader. Her community volunteer activities include volunteering with Friends of the Library at her local library and volunteering with cat rescue groups to do TNR (trap-neuter-return) of feral cats. She always has kitties that are being socialized and fostered prior to adoption and has helped to place more than 500 kittens and cats into forever homes. "
