Continuing Nursing Education

The APHON conference is a nonsmoking event. Infants and children are not allowed in sessions or the exhibit hall. Mobile devices must be turned on vibrate during educational sessions. Please be courteous to your fellow attendees. The dress is business casual. As in past conferences, a professional photographer may take photos of attendees at the APHON 46th Annual Conference and Exhibit. These photos are for APHON use only and may appear on APHON's website, printed brochures, or other promotional materials. As an attendee, you will have the option to select from different colored badge lanyards indicating your preferences for photography and agreement or disagreement to grant APHON permission and consent to use any photos taken.

Continuing Nursing Education Credit

The Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

You can earn 1 nursing contact hour for every 60-minute educational session you attend by completing and submitting the online evaluation. Sessions CNE contact hours (CNE) are listed to the right of each session description. We are excited to offer up to 65.25 CNE hours for the entire conference. Attendees can claim CNE credits both during the live meeting and while watching recorded sessions on the online platform through the end of the year. Below we've broken down how many CNE hours are available depending on how attendees participate during Conference:

  • Onsite individual available (if you attend one pre-conference course, one pre-conference workshop, and CNE-eligible sessions and review 30 posters): 27.75
  • Onsite individual available (if you attend one pre-conference workshop and CNE-eligible sessions and review 30 posters): 21.25
  • Onsite individual available (if you attend CNE-eligible sessions and review 30 posters): 17.50

The "onsite individual available" numbers reflect what an attendee can claim should they attend a CNE-eligible session during each time period one is offered; this includes concurrent, general, and paper sessions. There is one CNE eligible-sponsored symposium; the CNE for the symposium will be available from the sponsor, who will provide directions on how to claim the credit.

  • Total available (if you attend one pre-conference course, one pre-conference workshop, and all CNE-eligible sessions and review 30 posters): 65.25
  • Total available (if you attend one pre-conference workshop and all CNE-eligible sessions and review 30 posters): 58.75
  • Total available (if you attend all CNE-eligible sessions and review 30 posters): 55. The "total available" numbers reflect if an attendee chooses to watch all recorded sessions and review at least 30 posters before December 31.

The maximum number of CNE contact hours that can be earned per activity is listed below.

APHON Pediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Instructor Course — 6.25
Educational conference activities — up to 65.25
Evaluating 30 posters* — 3
Evaluating 20 posters* — 2
Evaluating 10 posters* — 1

Although there will be almost 60 posters, attendees need to review only a minimum of 30 to claim 3 CNE credits.*Partial credit for poster evaluation will not be granted.

CNE certificates will be available to print online at the conclusion of the conference by completing all online evaluations. Please note that evaluations will remain open until December 31, 2022. After this date, the system will not allow for any evaluations to be completed. CNE contact hours will not be awarded to attendees who fail to submit their evaluations before December 31, 2022. You should be aware of the continuing education requirements of your state board of nursing, especially for those states in which continuing education is mandatory.

Sessions noted with RX hours may be recognized for the amount of pharmacology content indicated as calculated by the APHON Program Planning Committee. APHON recommends that attendees retain a copy of the conference schedule for supporting documentation. Please note that you may not apply CNE toward pharmacology content; the content may be applied in only one area; nursing contact hours or pharmacology content.

ONCC sized for scheduleAPHON conference sessions can help you fulfill your requirements for recertification. Look for the ILNA content categories identified in the session descriptions to help you identify sessions that can meet both your learning needs and your requirements for recertification.

The program content has been reviewed by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) and is acceptable for recertification points.

Disclaimer: ONCC review is only for designating content to be used for recertification points and is not for nursing continuing professional development (NCPD) accreditation. NCPD programs must be formally approved for contact hours by an acceptable accreditor/approver of NCPD to be used for recertification by ONCC. If the NCPD provider fails to obtain formal approval to award contact hours by an acceptable accrediting/approval body, no information related to ONCC recertification may be used in relation to the program.

ONCC recently revised the process for ILNA coding to streamline the process and provide consistency across credentials as much as possible. Rather than coding courses for each credential, ONCC is now coding content that may apply across credentials and allow nurses to earn NCPD credit in broader categories. Any course or program that has been accredited for 4 NCPD or less can be applied in full or split in any category that reasonably fits the content for which the nurse needs ILNA points.

The total amount of ILNA points claimed may not exceed the total amount of NCPD awarded from this course and may only apply to the credential each nurse is renewing. Please also note that Individual nurse’s learning plans are linked to the ONCC Test Blueprint for the certification they hold. Therefore, the nurse will need to review the test blueprint to determine where the content fits.
