Her nursing career began at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC in 1980. Throughout her nursing career, she has been involved in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology in some 'way, shape or form' - with a focus on Pediatric Neuro-Oncology.

She has 20 years of nursing experience as both a staff nurse and Nurse Practitioner. She received her undergraduate Nursing degree from McMaster University and completed her Masters/NP Program at the University of Pennsylvania in 2001.

Karen Wolownik has been a Pediatric Heme/Onc/BMT nurse for more than 20 years. She has served as BMT Coordinator, Clinical NP, and Clinical Nurse Specialist. As an educator, she provides Continuing Education Programs to the nursing staff at Westchester Medical Center and disease/treatment information to the patients and families.
