President's Welcome

Burke SusanSan Jose, California — home to many of the largest high-tech companies and the capital of Silicon Valley – a city that is rich in innovation and technology. San Jose is located in the beautiful bay area of California and advertised to have 300+ days of sunshine per year. What better place for APHON attendees to gather to share and advance their knowledge, network with colleagues, relax and rejuvenate. I invite you to join me at APHON’s 43rd annual conference where we will be celebrating our theme: “Igniting Passion, Inspiring Confidence.” The Conference Planning Committee has done a fantastic job of putting together a conference packed with dynamic speakers, outstanding content, and fun activities. Filmmaker, photographer, and author Carolyn Jones will inspire us with her opening keynote entitled the American Nurse: Stories of Life-Changing Impact and our closing speaker, Kelly Johnson will explore the intimate moments we have within our profession that remind us why we chose nursing in the first place and how nursing continues to choose us throughout our career. Whether you are new to pediatric hematology/oncology nursing or have years of experience, this conference offers something for everyone. It provides a great opportunity to advance your knowledge, renew friendships, and create new connections. So get ready to ignite your mind and inspire others as you explore opportunities to shape the future for children with cancer and blood disorders.

You may want to travel in early as you will have an opportunity on Wednesday to tour the new pediatric hematology, oncology and stem cell transplant units at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. There are also a few post-conference activities planned so consider staying around a few extra days to enjoy a hike through the Redwoods or some wine tasting, or to simply relax in the beautiful California sunshine.

APHON’s conference is an annual event that I look forward to, and I look forward to sharing this experience with you!
