Janie Avila is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner at DHR Health Transplant Institute - Liver Specialty Clinic in McAllen, Texas. She started in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology as a Registered Nurse in 2001 in the inpatient setting and then transferred to the outpatient clinic with Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital at Vannie Cook Children’s Cancer and Hematology Clinic.
In 2008, she obtained CPON certification as well as certification as an APHON Chemo/Bio Instructor. Since then, she has also been employed at DHR Health Cancer Center and Pediatric Home Health and Hospice. Janie joined APHON’s Global Outreach Committee in 2016 when APHON’s Pediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Course was translated for use by pediatric oncology nurses in Latin America. She was part of the Task Force who worked on the translated curriculum and taught the inaugural Spanish Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Course in Santiago, Chile. She has also participated in teaching the Spanish Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Instructor course as we develop chemo/bio instructors in Latin America. She is incoming Vice Chair for the Global Outreach Committee and looks forward to serving the team as well as our APHON colleagues.
