Dr. Deborah Lafond received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Maryland in 2012. She received her Masters in Nursing and Nurse Practitioner training at the University of Hawaii in 1991. Dr. Lafond was inducted as a Fellow in Palliative Care Nursing in March 2019. She has over 28 years of experience as an Oncology nurse practitioner, with a primary focus in neuro-oncology and pediatric palliative care. Dr. Lafond is the past Chair of the APHON Evidence-Based Practice and Research Committee.
She was awarded the Certified Hospice and Palliative Pediatric Nurse of the Year award and the APHON Excellence in Evidence-Based Practice award in 2018. Dr. Lafond is a Sojourns Scholar with the Cambia Health Foundation since 2015. Her focus of work is in primary pediatric palliative care. She also was a presenter at the “Pediatric Palliative Care: Concurrent care from the bedside to the community”, Models and Strategies to Integrate Palliative Care Principles into Serious Illness Care: A Workshop, Roundtable on Quality Care for People with Serious Illness, The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine in April 2017 and represented the pediatric voice at the Hospice and Palliative Care Association and American Nurses Association Palliative Nursing Summit, The Future of Population Health: Nurses Leading Change and Transforming Care, in May 2017.
