Dr. Deborah Lafond has over 25 years experience in pediatric hematology/oncology nursing. She received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in 2012 from the University of Maryland. Her capstone projected investigated the feasibility of early integration of palliative care to promote comfort and coping for children, adolescents and young adults undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplant. She is a Cambia Health Foundation Sojourns Scholar in palliative care, where her work focuses on primary palliative care education and mentoring for the bedside clinician.
Outcomes of this project have included early integration of palliative care for children with high risk cancers and several innovative quality improvement projects related to patient and family education for this population. Dr. Lafond is the immediate past chair of the APHON Evidence Based Practice and Research Committee and serves as a co-chair of the Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing Association Research Special Interest Group.
